Data Center

Our data center is only five miles from the heart of downtown Atlanta, Georgia, a strategic location on key fiber routes. That gives our data center extremely cost-effective fiber connectivity to the city infrastructures and businesses our services use most. This location also provides a lower cost of operations than a downtown location, as well as insulation from events that could affect the city in a disaster situation. The data center's construction is one-story brick and block on a steel I-beam frame with twenty-foot ceiling height. Dock-high floors, drains in all facility floors, and poured concrete floors and ceilings ensure load-bearing capacity and storm resistance. There are no windows in the data center area of the building, enabling climate control and weather resistance.

Electrical

The data center is equipped with state-of-the-art sets of Cummins/ONAN Diesel generators in a fully redundant parallel configuration with a 12,000-gallon on-site fuel tank and emergency fuel delivery contract. Multiple generator modules are synchronized to share the power load, with one extra inline generator taking over the load if one of the standard units fails.

Uninterruptible Power Supplies

OpenReaction has an Uninterruptible Power Supply system for battery-backed power options. State-of-the-art fully redundant parallel UPS modules are synchronized to ensure that power is never lost even if one of the units should fail.

Fiber

The data center is connected to many points in the metro Atlanta area by dark fiber (unused fiber optic capacity) from Atlanta Gas Light Networks. This is available in a ring format to the 56 Marietta carrier hotel and other telecom hotels, as well as the other on-net buildings and national carriers through cross-connects. The fiber is of the latest quality, pulled in the last four years, so loss is minimal compared with other carriers. Our data center has negotiated an aggressive rate with full dark fiber availability accessible to all of our customers.

Air Handling/Chilling

The data center has installed a fully redundant chilled-water plant based on the most efficient water tower technology from BAC. The tower setup is comprised of four single cell towers in a parallel configuration with redundant capacity, and parallel pump systems. A chilled-water backbone traverses the building and is available to all customers for a small chilled water fee (to cover our operating costs). This method is by far the cheapest to operate and requires no capital outlay or the expensive ongoing operating costs of the external dry cooler systems found on most buildings.

Fire Protection

The building is protected with a newly installed pre-action fire suppression system, and is monitored by the fire department. This state-of-the-art system uses zone alarm monitoring at the main security station. Pre-action keeps the system pressurized with air and water only at the main, which is located at the edge of the building. Water is only released to the system if there are multiple confirmed alarms corroborated by the system's intelligent controller. This provides protection against accidental release and unintended leaks.

Security

The OpenReaction data center has several layers of security. The grounds are enclosed with an eight-foot security fence topped with barbed wire and concertina wire. An automatic gate through the fence, and all exterior doors are card-key activated. Visitors must use the video phone at the gate to request entrance to the grounds, while colocation customers can use their card keys for access. The single visitor/customer entrance point in the main lobby is manned by a guard 24 hours a day. The main data center areas are further protected with a hand-key biometric reader, preventing unauthorized card use. Video surveillance watches all areas of the data center and grounds. There are cameras that record all movement inside and around the building. This also provides for a secure environment for employees and customers to work overnight and access their automobiles. Guards are stationed on the grounds 24/7 for continuous live monitoring and situation handling, as well as control of capital equipment entering and leaving the facility.

Building Management

The data center monitors all of the security, fire, and critical operating systems including UPS, generators, air conditioners, and pumps through state-of-the-art building management system. This system notifies staff instantly of any problems and manages the power and output of core systems.

Network

OpenReaction employes two classes of network connectivity:

Standard

The Standard network is our economy network and features 1Gbps network drops from WVFiber, Telia (two 1Gbps links), PCCWBTN, and nLayers. This brings the total network connectivity on Standard to 5Gbps.

Premium

The Premium network is our high end optimized network and is designed to ensure the lowest possible latency and the fastest possible routes. While most companies use standard BGP routing schemes, OpenReaction utilizes the Avaya route science route optimizer system for the ultimate low latency high availability connection to your servers. The Premium network features 6Gbps of network access including Level3, PCCWBTN, Sprint, Qwest, Savvis, and Telia. Each of these providers have 1Gbps connections to our data center network core.
